Drill for Eggs How to Steal Eggs
Drill in, grab the egg, spend Speed to escape the guardian, and hatch pets for Cash.
Stealing eggs is the high-risk step of the Drill for Eggs loop. You enter a zone with a drill, break through, take the egg, then outrun the guardian using Speed bought from the green buttons near your base. Place the egg for gestation, hatch a pet, and collect Cash — including offline. This guide focuses on surviving the chase and turning steals into pets.
Before your first hard run, skim Getting Started and bank Power with Training Power. Controls for movement and interact are on Controls.
Steal loop overview
- Prepare at base. Train Power, restock Speed at the green buttons, and equip a drill you can afford from the Drill Shop.
- Enter the zone. Move with WASD, jump with Space, and use the drill to break into the egg area.
- Take the egg. Interact with E when prompted.
- Escape the guardian. Guardians chase thieves. Speed is what lets you outrun them back to safety.
- Place the egg. Return to base and place it to start gestation.
- Hatch and Index. When gestation ends, the pet hatches. First-time unlocks pay a one-time Index reward.
Skip any of those steps and the steal fails economically even if you “got the egg” for a moment.
Speed and the green buttons
Speed is not cosmetic. It is the resource that decides whether a guardian catch ends your run. Buy Speed from the green buttons near the base before you leave for a dangerous zone. Players who spend every Cash coin on drills and zero on Speed tend to lose eggs on the way home.
Practical Speed habits:
- Restock after every failed chase.
- Restock before attempting a new, harder zone.
- Do not assume Power alone saves you — Power helps you drill in; Speed helps you leave.
If you are broke, run safer steals or train until pets generate enough Cash for both drill upgrades and Speed.
Drills and zone difficulty
Drills are bought at the Drill Shop with Cash. The game can notify you when a drill becomes affordable — use that cue, then ask whether your Power and Speed are ready for the zones that drill unlocks. Named drills such as Diamond and Electric show up in mid progression talk; treat them as milestones after your escape success rate is stable.
A stronger drill that opens a zone you cannot escape is a vanity purchase. Match drill tier to Power and Speed, not to the most expensive label in the shop.
Guardians: expect the chase
Guardians exist to punish greedy or under-prepared steals. Once you take the egg, pathing matters:
- Know the route back to base before you commit.
- Avoid optional fights or side loot while carrying.
- Spend Speed deliberately on the chase, not randomly before you grab the egg.
- If you drop the attempt, return to auto-train and Speed buttons instead of rage-retrying empty.
Each failed chase teaches the zone’s timing. After two failures, upgrade Speed or Power before a third try.
Gestation, hatching, and Cash
A placed egg enters gestation. When gestation finishes, it hatches into a pet. Pets earn Cash over time, including offline, which is why successful steals compound. Your next drill and next Speed purchase are paid by pets you already hatched.
Index tip: the first time you unlock a pet, claim the one-time Index reward. Farming the same pet again still helps Cash, but the Index payout is first-unlock only. New Worlds and Mutations after Rebirth add more Index targets — another reason steals stay valuable in mid game.
Stealing after Rebirth
The first Rebirth grants a permanent Cash multiplier (commonly 1.5x) and resets Power to 0, while unlocking Worlds with Mutations. Post-Rebirth steals should start conservative: rebuild Power in the auto-train zone, restock Speed, then clear comfortable eggs before Mutation hunting. Higher Cash income makes Speed and drills easier to afford; low Power still makes guardians dangerous if you skip training.
Common steal failures
- Leaving base with no Speed.
- Buying a drill upgrade and immediately attempting a max-tier zone.
- Forgetting to place the egg after a successful escape.
- Ignoring Index rewards on new hatches.
- Treating Levels as a separate grind (they are Power milestones only).

Steal with a plan: Power to enter, drill to break in, Speed to leave, placement to hatch, Index to collect. That sequence turns risky chases into the Cash engine that funds everything else in Drill for Eggs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How do I steal an egg in Drill for Eggs?
Equip a drill, enter a zone, take the egg, outrun the guardian with Speed, then place the egg at your base for gestation.
Where do I get Speed?
Buy Speed from the green buttons near your base before difficult steals so you can outrun guardians.
What happens after I place an egg?
The egg gestates, then hatches into a pet that earns Cash over time, including while you are offline.
Why did the guardian catch me?
Usually low Speed, a bad escape route, or attempting a zone harder than your Power and drill support.
Do first-time pets give extra rewards?
Yes. First-time pet unlocks grant a one-time Index reward. Check the Index after new hatches.
Which drill should I buy for steals?
Buy the affordable drill that matches your Power and the next zone you can escape. Named options like Diamond and Electric are mid-progression goals.
